Application Submission Process

The Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service is actively hiring qualified candidates.

The Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service is looking for people with integrity, who are accountable, courageous, respectful, caring and fair; people who enjoy working with others. We want people who want to make a difference in the lives of others.

Please be advised that the process for becoming a Police Constable is competitive and as such, an applicant may be declined at any stage of the process.

The steps in our Hiring Process are outlined below:

Constable Application 2017

Please print out a copy of the Constable Application package and complete the full package.   Submit your package (with originals or copies of all listed documents) to Constable Kenneth Chaussi, Labour Relations/Training Officer (or other person as identified in the posting).  Please note all documents must be received by the date and time specified on the posting in order to be considered.

Applications received after the deadline will not be processed.

The application package should include:

  • Completed AMPS application
  • Authorization for Release of Personal Information (signed and endorsed original)
  • Fingerprint application or proof of request
  • Social Insurance Number (copy)
  • Applicant Agreement (signed original)
  • Certified copy of High school diploma, high school equivalency Diploma or General Education Diploma, Certification transcript
  • Motor Vehicle drivers licence and driver’s abstract (copy)
  • Official birth certificate (copy)
  • First Nations status (provide proof and copy)
  • Official record of change of names, if applicable
  • Certified copy of disposition of all arrests in which you were the defendant, if applicable
  • Valid standard 1st aid and Level C CPR

Stage One

The process begins with a Fitness Test. You must achieve a minimum score of 75% to be eligible to continue. This fitness test is conducted by two trained AMPS constables.

Stage Two

You will be invited to attend an interview conducted by an interview board. You must achieve a minimum score of 75% to continue to Stage Three.

Stage Three

Immediately after the interview, you will be required to take a written examination. You will be tested on your ability to organize information in a clear, coherent and comprehensive manner. Penmanship is also rated.

Stage Four

You will be scheduled to complete a psychological assessment to determine if you are suitable for the position. The appointment is scheduled by the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service. All acquired costs (parking, meals, and travel) are at your own expense.

Stage Five

At this stage in the process a thorough background investigation will be conducted. It may include, but is not limited to, reference checks, verification of educational documents, verification of employment history, driver’s history checks and credit history checks.

Stage Six

All the information collected within the selection process is reviewed and compared to the selection criteria. If you are selected a conditional offer of employment, contingent upon medical clearance may be made at this time.

Stage Seven

If you accept the offer of employment then you are required to attend the Basic Constable Training Course at the Ontario Police College (O.P.C.) for a 12 week Basic training course. The O.P.C training is academically and physically rigorous. You must successfully complete the Basic Training Course to continue your employment with the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service. After the Basic Training Course at O.P.C. you will then complete five more weeks of training at the Provincial Police Academy. A Quebec equivalency exam is also required for you to complete in order to obtain Constable Status within the Province of Quebec. Arrangements for this exam will be made for you by the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service.

Once a new recruit has completed their basic training and begins working with the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service, they will continue as a probationary constable for a period of twelve months where they will receive continuous evaluation.

Unsuccessful applicants:

May re-apply for a Police Constable position with the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service should another position be posted.

Applications will be valid for a period of one year from the date they are received.

However, if an applicant wishes to re-submit his/her application within the year please be advised that your VISION EXAMINATION, MEDICAL CONSENT FORM signed by a Doctor, Drivers Abstract and CPIC checks are only valid for 6 months. You must re-submit these forms along with a cover letter stating that you wish to re-submit your application.
